Senior Natural History Art Exhibition

Sunday, 05 May, 2013  |  11:00 AM - 03:00 PM

Art, culture, and life in Kino Bay, Senora, Mexico, have gripped the hearts of Maria Johnson, and Celia Chatham. From May 1-5, Johnson and Chatham invite you to view the culminating pieces of their senior projects and ocean-inspired undergraduate careers. The show takes place in the Natural History Institute Gallery, along side many historic prints from Prescott College’s Josephine Michell Arader Collection.

From Johnson, “(This show has) a primary focus on sharing the stories of fisher’s lives, teaching people about fisheries conservation issues, and providing examples of how we are connected to this community by the choices we make.”

From Chatham, “Illustration brings me into the moment and requires maintained, focused attention to detail.  This is also true for natural history – both are fundamentally based on accurate observation.”

Gallery hours are 11-3pm during the show, except on Saturday, May 4, when an artists' reception will be held from 4-7pm. Light refreshments will be served. (The reception follows the On Campus Bachelor's Graduation Ceremony, to be held at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center at 10 am.)

This show is free and open to the public.

The Natural History Institute is located on the Prescott College campus at 310 Grove Ave., on the northwest corner of Sheldon and Grove. The Gallery entrance is on the creek-facing side of the building.
